My name is Kurtis Kroon (and no, my middle name doesn’t begin with a K). I am a bicentennial baby, born in Logan, Utah. My family lived in Hyrum, a small town (at the time, the population was about 2 500, not counting farm animals!) located about 8 miles south of Logan. (I’ve since read that the population is up to nearly 5 000 people.) Now, imagine my surprise when I went searching for more information about Cache County (the county where they’re located, Logan being the county seat) and came across the Cache Chamber of Commerce’s rather glitzy web site. Too bad it doesn’t validate at the W3C. Who knew?

We moved to Camino, California in 1986—then the following year, we moved down the hill a few miles to Placerville, California (also known as Hangtown). I attended high school at El Dorado High School, where I spent most of my time trying to understand why I felt so harried: the college placement and Advanced Placement classes I took were probably the reason. After graduating, the opportunity to take fun classes at the local community college opened up, so I enrolled in fun classes like … Chemistry, Physics, Calculus … okay, I never denied being a geek, did I?

Now, I’m a 29-year-old guy-next-door who lives in Sacramento, California.

I like a lot of different things: music (the older, the better—within limits!); language (French in particular, although I get by quite satisfactorily in Spanish, as well); reading in general; and rodeo (with a twist!)
